The Apostolic Juridical Context Of Redemption
A MONOGRAPH ON THE APOSTOLIC DOCTRINE OF REDEMPTION
Union, Participation, Rebirth, and the Governance of the Spirit
Thesis
The apostolic redemption is the intercessory and participatory rescue accomplished by Christ, the firstborn among many brethren. By entering human existence in its alienation, weakness, corruption, and mortality, Christ confronts the dominion of sin and death, judges the flesh as the governing principle of the old humanity, and rises as the head of the new humanity. Through union with Christ and rebirth by the Spirit, the redeemed enter the kingdom of the Son and participate in his righteousness, life, sonship, and glory. The juridical context of redemption concerns the judgment and transfer of governmental authority. The flesh is juridically dead because its authority to govern the redeemed has been judged and revoked in the cross. The Spirit now governs the new man, while the final redemption of the body awaits resurrection and the consummation of the kingdom. This account must be distinguished from later forensic frameworks that detach redemption from union, participation, rebirth, and kingdom governance. The apostolic witness does not present redemption as an external reassignment of punishment. It presents the Son’s intercessory rescue of his brethren through incarnation, death, resurrection, exaltation, and the gift of the Spirit.
